We are pleased to announce the 6th edition of the Pacific Islands Universities Regional Network Conference will take place at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, in Lae, from Tuesday, July 1st to Thursday, July 3rd, 2025.
Our general theme“Harnessing technologies for the safe and sustainable development of the Pacific”will not only explore the implications of new technologies for our region, but also theintegration of traditional knowledge in developing solutions for challenges facing the Pacific.
PIURN Conferences have always been interdisciplinary and inclusive, and our 6th edition is no exception. The conference is open to all disciplines, researchers and students from the region.
The general theme encompasses sciences and technology, traditional knowledge, cultural practices, languages, arts, politics and education, but also Pacific studies, oceanography, biodiversity, climate science, health... We welcome papers from all disciplines.

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology
The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) is a premier STEM-focused institution located in Lae City, the second-largest city and industrial hub of Papua New Guinea. Renowned for its commitment to advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, PNGUoT serves a vibrant community of over 3,500 students. The university is supported by a dedicated workforce of approximately 1,000 staff members, including 250 highly qualified academics.
PIURN is a consortium of 15 Member Universities from the Pacific Islands Countries and Territories, co-chaired by the University of the South Pacific and the University of New Caledonia. Every two years, a PIURN member university hosts and organizes the network's conference.
The last five conferences highlighted the work of the Pacific researchers, and allowed the establishment of new collaborations between academics of the region. These conferences are an opportunity Pacific Students to present their research work in front of their peers.
